Marchionne recently announced big plans for Maserati in the United States. He wants Maserati to rival luxury brands like Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz and Lexus -- brands typically preferred by rich US consumers. The plan was kicked off with Maserati's huge Super Bowl ad buy, and will continue with a massive 66% expansion of Maserati's dealer network as the brand aims to triple its annual global sales.

These goals are going to be difficult to achieve. Maserati only sold 4,981 vehicles in the US in 2013, compared to Jaguar's 16,952 and Mercedes' 334,344. Marchionne is hopeful that Maserati's Italian brand identity will help set the brand apart from others.

I'm sure Maserati is set to grow rapidly over the next while, but do you think it will be able to catch up to its rivals in sales numbers?

Maserati seems to be getting lots of attention at the local auto show

And on the internet it seems like people are excited about seeing or sitting in the new Ghibli.

I think if Maserati plays their cards right they can really improve their sales this year.

Thats what i noticed too, sadly people aren't encouraged to also sit in a QuattroPorte which i think is needed.
Surprisingly the interior's on both are close enough. It might make potential Ghibli owners appreciate it more.

Even if Maserati did nothing this year, its sales would rise still. The Ghibli wasn't on sale for a full year, so its sales should boost the brand's total output. I think that Maserati could quickly be sen as equal to major luxury brands in NA. It has the added benefit of being more exclusive than the German brands.
