Despite previous reports that the Maserati Levante SUV would be based on the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Italian automaker has confirmed that it won’t be.
Instead, the SUV will be built on the new Quattroporte and Ghibli architecture from the Italian automaker. Maserati CEO Harald Wester confirmed in an interview that the Levante would not use the same platform as the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

In addition, the Levante will likely share the new Q4 all-wheel drive developed for the Quattroporte and Ghibli models, including the Q4′s modified “Skyhook” suspension. Therefore, it is also likely that the Levante will share its powerplants with the Quattroporte, though it will be interesting to see if the Italian automaker offers its SUV with a V8 all-wheel drive option.
