last year Maserati was a two horse show. You could have the QP or you could have the GT all you needed was $150K. Now we have the Ghibli and the Levante coming along.

What does this mean to the brand? 4 after is more than 2, Porsche did it and continues to reassure that the brand has not been dilluted in any way shape or form. Thats why every porsche i see has 4 doors and mommy at the wheel...

TBH I could care less if they water down the entry-level models, with any entry-level model like the Ghibli or Levante you have to expect it to be watered down to some extent. At least higher end models like QP's and Grand Turismos should stay the same.

I think that it is possible to water down a brand, but most of the time it isn't happening. I am a little worried about the Mercedes Benz X-Class watering down their brand. I can see dilution happening if these auto makers move too far down market, but not if they just make nice models that aren't sports cars.

As long as they keep making the cars that make them who they are.

These high volume SUV models aren't going to appeal to the hardcore guys anyways

So why do they care if it waters down the brand?

As long as Maserati stays true to their existing models who cares... More models that make the company more money ? Why not? You are giving Maserati grief about making money? Lets not forget this is BUSINESS.

thats not the point. What I'm talking about is the emotional pull to exclusivity that a brand like Maserati and Porsche can provide. Same with Mercedes, exclusivity is a very powerful tool and when you start to see Massers in the same volume as BMW's and Cadillac something has gone awry. Exclusivity is the reason people would spend 150K on a maserati in the past, where does that emotional drive go when the company is transitioned into something mainstream and mass produced...

excellent way to sidestep the question, you're now asking me to spend an extra 200K on a vehicle that wont suit my needs like a QP would.

You guys are discounting the emotional and psychological drivers of ultra lux purchasing decisions.

It comes down to look what I have that you don't. You don't get to say that anymore when everyone has what you have. Get it.

don't buy the maserati then

i have no problem with a maserati SUV.

The Ghibli is also a very nice looking car

maserati does not have nearly enough models. They need to increase their sales big time. At the price the maseratis demand this isn't going to be a car you see all the time anyways.
